Salvador Rivera is a life-long resident of San Diego. He grew up along the border in San Ysidro and graduated from Mar Vista High School in Imperial Beach in 1982. An opportunity to play baseball at San Diego State University drew Salvador to the school. Five years later, he got his B.A. in Journalism from SDSU. During Super Bowl week in San Diego, in January of ‘08, he landed his first job as a desk assistant with KGTV, the ABC affiliate in San Diego. He would go on to become an assignment editor, associate producer and ultimately a reporter. He also gained experience in markets such as Fresno, Las Vegas and Los Angeles. All together, Salvador worked in the television news industry for 19 years. In the spring of 2007, Salvador walked away from news. He’s now the Communications Manager for Sycuan. He serves as liaison with the media. He also publishes magazines and newsletters for both the casino and the Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation. Rivera also represents Sycuan at functions and events around the Southern California region. Other responsibilities include overseeing all marketing and advertising materials in Spanish for Sycuan’s print, radio and television campaigns. He serves on the board of directors for the San Ysidro Chamber of Commerce, the Community Youth Athletic Center in National City and the O’Farrell Academy in the Skyline area of San Diego. When time allows, he’s a volunteer varsity baseball coach at Castle Park High School. He’s an avid sports fan, loves the Padres, Chargers and the Aztecs. Salvador has been married for 17 years to Rosa, who is a bilingual teacher with the South Bay School District.
