Kate Nelson has been a copy editor at The San Diego Union-Tribune since 2000. She is a second-generation native Escondidan and a lifelong resident of San Diego County. She graduated from San Pasqual High School in 1994.
Kate attended Palomar College for two years, earning an associate's degree in journalism in 1996 and serving as editor of the college's weekly student newspaper, The Telescope.
She attended San Diego State University from 1996 to 1999 and was a staff writer, managing editor, and then editor in chief of The Daily Aztec from 1998 to 1999. She has a bachelor's degree in journalism from SDSU.
After graduating from SDSU, she was a copy editor and page designer at The North County Times in Escondido from 1999 to 2000, before being hired at the Union-Tribune.
Kate enjoys traveling, having visited Israel, Japan, Italy and Turkey, but is always happy to return home to Mission Hills.
